Location

The Shi Shi Beach is located near the Neah Bay area in the Clallam County of the state of Washington, USA.

Tourist attractions

The beach lies near the reservation area of the Indian Tribe of Makah. A shorter trekking route that passes through this private area helps in reaching the beach early. Otherwise, to reach the beach people have to hike through a long stretch in the Olympic National Park with the starting point at Ozette. This trekking hike to the beach stretches across 13 miles whereas the unofficial shorter route through the Indian tribe land is just 2 miles.

The beach is located at a remote corner and the natural beauty of the place is so charming that one feels it is worth the trouble of trekking. The beach also has the coastline’s best tide pools. The beach is 2 miles long with unspoilt natural beauty. Mostly hikers come to the beach. After the long hike, visitors to the beach can rest their tired limbs in the water. The beach is also a great place to stroll and enjoy the cold water. Once well rested, one can try fishing and boating here. Or if interested, one can also try swimming. Exploring the surrounding area on foot is also a good option. White water paddling is also indulged in by some visitors to the beach. But the best thing one gets here is the fresh cold air.

Best period to visit

One can visit the beach during summer or when there are no storms in the Pacific. August is the preferred month of visit as it is at this time when the beach receives the least rainfall.

Access

After driving for 5 miles from Port Angeles on the US Highway 101, one comes to the Highway 112. Another 63 miles drive on this takes one to Neah Bay. On crossing the town, at the west end one can find the Cape Flattery Road. Driving on this for 3 miles brings one to the Hobuck Beach Road. After crossing the Waatch River that lies on the left of this road, one can reach the Sooes River. Here, the Hobuck Beach Road is called the Sooes Beach Road. One will then have to cross the Sooes River and reach the end of the trail where parking facilities are available. But parking here is allowed only during the day time. Visitors to the beach can park their vehicles in private parking lots which are advertised and are comparatively safer.
